Pursuant to Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

The number of unprocessed PERK kits reported by each agency or jurisdiction that has submitted PERK Kits information for the inventory as required under SB 658.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, and is not being made for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

On March 18, 2015, the Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS or the Department) received your request pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for “the number of unprocessed PERK kits reported by each agency or jurisdiction that has submitted PERK Kits information for the inventory as required under SB 658.” The Department is in possession of records responsive to this request, however there are search and production costs associated with the filling of the request. The Department would estimate the costs associated with the search and production of the records would be $35.70. We are able to provide the records electronically by email attachment, so no additional copy or postage costs would be incurred.

The Virginia Department of Forensic Science (DFS or the Department) received your request, submitted March 18, 2015, under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) for “the number of unprocessed PERK kits reported by each agency or jurisdiction that has submitted PERK Kits information for the inventory as required under SB 658.” You also indicated that you would request an estimate of any charges prior to the filling of the request. By response dated March 25, 2015, the Department informed you that it did have records responsive to your request, but that the Department estimated that there would be search and production costs of $35.70 for those records. By response dated March 26, 2015, you acknowledged the estimate of the search and production costs and indicated that you would like to proceed with the request.

Attached please find the records responsive to your request. These records reflect the responses from law enforcement agencies received by the Department of Forensic Science as of 1:03 p.m. today (April 2, 2015). As we have indicated previously, the Department anticipates receiving additional responses from law enforcement agencies prior to the final report to the Virginia General Assembly.

The Department incurred the following search, production and copy costs for producing these documents.

Search and Production Time $ 26.77
