A message was sent to you regarding record request #22-1858:

Based on your request for the basic information on all open murder investigations, the Department has formulated an approximate advance estimate of the anticipated charges for searching and redacting the requested records. It is estimated that it will take approximately fourteen (14) hours at a cost of $770.00 to process your request. Please note this would only include homicide cases that the State Police is currently investigating. Additionally, the Department's current record management system became operational in 2013. There are records after 1970 that were imported to the current system. Anything prior to 1970 would require a manual search of other archived records. The cost to search for those records is not included with this cost estimate.

Before continuing to process your request, we require that you provide a deposit in the amount of $770.00 ( §2.2-3704 (H)). The deposit will be credited toward the final cost of supplying the requested documents.

Please forward a copy of this letter along with a check for $770.00, payable to the Department of State Police, Attention: Legal Office, P.O. Box 27472, Richmond, Virginia, 23261-7472.
