To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All correspondence, dated between November 1 2014 and the date this request is fulfilled, between officials or employees of the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and officials or employees of the University of Virginia. Please limit this request to correspondence that pertains to Columbia’s “independent review” of a story published by Rolling Stone in November 2014. The review has been widely reported by news media:

Requested records (“correspondence”) include emails, letters, memoranda, agreements, contracts, and email attachments.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

J.K. Trotter

Dear J.K. Trotter:

I am writing to give you a status update on your recent FOIA request. We are still working on determining what records we have that may be responsive to your request, and we need to invoke the seven work-day extension (See Va. Code §2.2-3704(B)(4)) to give us until January 29th to respond. (Please note that January 19th was a holiday and does not count towards the FOIA deadline.)

Please note that we are experiencing an unusually high volume of requests at this time. We ask for your patience and cooperation as we work to process your request as quickly as possible.

Sincerely,
