From: Josh Israel
To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
I request a copy of the donor agreement between GMU and the Charles Koch Foundation referenced here (https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2019/03/21/george-mason-gets-million-koch-gift-research-immigration-labor/?utm_term=.461ac715d870), providing $1.1 million for the Schar School of Policy and Government. The funds, according to the announcement, will pay for research on demographic changes, immigration and labor issues.
I request a fee wavier, as I am a reporter and this information is very much in the public interest -- especially in light of last May's controversy about academic independence standards. I am a Virginia resident and a reporter for ThinkProgress, a news site with a significant Virginia readership.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Josh Israel
