To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Vermont Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

I am requesting any work orders from the traffic investigations team (http://vtrans.vermont.gov/operations/technical-services/tsmo/traffic-operations) regarding steep grade warning signs (such as "use low gear" or "14% grade, next 1/2 mile") along the Smuggler's Notch section of route 108. If possible, I'd like all such work orders from 2006 to present.

For reference, I've attached a photograph of one of these signs from around 2010 or 2011, after having been vandalized to read "Use low gnar."

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 3 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Brian Waters

From: Department of Transportation

Good morning, Mr. Waters:

We have completed the estimate that you requested for work orders from the traffic investigations team (http://vtrans.vermont.gov/operations/technical-services/tsmo/traffic-operations) regarding steep grade warning signs (such as "use low gear" or "14% grade, next 1/2 mile") along the Smuggler's Notch section of route 108. If possible, I'd like all such work orders from 2006 to present. The following is a breakdown of the estimate:

600 minutes for time spent @ $0.45/minute = $270.00
Total estimate = $270.00

As the cost estimate is greater than $100.00, AOT policy is that responsive records are not provided until payment has been received and are not provided piecemeal.

Please keep in mind that this is an estimate. If you have any questions, please call the number listed below.

Please reply to this email indicating whether or not you would like us to proceed with the processing of your request.

Thank you,

Karen Haines
