To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to Utah’s Government Records Access and Management Act (“GRAMA”), I hereby request the following records:

A log of public records requests submitted to the Department of Environmental Quality that lists the date of request, the requester's name, the requester's organizational affiliation, a description of the request and the date the request was filled. Ideally I would like this information for the period from 2004 to the present.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, and is made in the process of academic research and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely,

Erik Peterson

I am the GRAMA coordinator for the Department of Environmental Quality(DEQ)
ere is Salt Lake City, Utah. In our Department we have 6 Divisions and
each one of them have GRAMA files clerks who also receive requests/ fulfill
requests and one a week, the send me a GRAMA Summary (which is a log sheet
of what happened in that particular week. So, I receive this spreadsheet
from each of them by the middle of the following week for what happened
that week before. I compile these into a spreadsheet and make sure that
things are tracked as well as answered or completed. I do have
spreadsheets available for the past few years., but we archive older
years. According to Utah Government Law it is past the years of retention
and they were destroyed. This is a huge mount of papers with these
Spreadsheets. We normally have about 20 requests/ week or can go up to 40
to 50. There would be a charge per hour to get all these compiled for you
as well as send them to you. The charge would be for my time doing all
this work envolved. Do you really need these all the way back as far as
you mentioned, or would a couple of years suffice? I can probably send you
those without a charge because I have them readily available. I will
attache a sample of a spreadsheet below. The Division column are all done
in initials which are: DAQ - Division of Air Quality, DDW - Division of
Drinking Water, DERR - Divison of Environmental Response & Remediation,
DWMRC - Divison of Waste Management & Radiation Control, DWQ - Division of
Water Control. Let me know how you want to proceed. Other than the
spreadsheets that's the only way we compile them because we receive sooo
many.

Thanks for your response, this is really helpful.

The example you sent looks great, I would definitely like the past several years of the readily available logs. Please send those when they are available.

In terms of the older logs, do you have an estimate for how much it would cost for the earlier years based on the fees you mentioned? I do have some research funds to cover those sorts of expense and I would like to have some of the earlier years if possible.

Thanks for your help,

Erik

Attached below is this years current weekly GRAMA Summaries for this year
of 2105. Note that each week includes all requests received from each of
our Divisions and then there is a Pending GRAMA Summary which lists those
requests that were not completed as yet so they are rolled over into that
listing until they are completed.

I am only giving you the past 3 years because the previous years before
then have been destroyed (in Archives) as to the retention for these I
found out is 2 years. However, I have the last 3 years so I will email
that 3rd year as well. Due to the size of the files I will send each year
in a separate email.
