Dear Mr. Von Struckmann:

Thank you for submitting your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to
the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) via the *FOIAonline*
website. We received your request on May 4, 2021. Your request concerns
textual records, photos and sound recordings related to SS-Sturmbannfuhrer
Rudolf Schuster.

Our office uses the *FOIAonline* portal for FOIA and Privacy Act requests
for the National Archives and Records Administration's *operational *records
(records created by this agency). Because your *FOIAOnline *request is for
records that may be textual *archival *records (records created by or
originated in a different agency but that may have been transferred to the
legal custody of NARA), we are forwarding it to three different components
in our *Office of Research Services. **Textual Reference (RR2R)* staff
will search for textual archival records. *Still Pictures *will search for
photographs, and *Motion Pictures *will search for sound recordings.

Since *Research Services* does not process FOIA requests through
*FOIAOnline*, we removed your request from the *FOIAOnline* website. Each
component will assign your request a new tracking number, and respond
directly to you. In the future, if you need to follow up with these
offices, please contact them at the addresses below, or electronically via
email (email is preferred).

Dear Tino Von Struckmann:

This is in reply to your Freedom of Information Act request, dated May 5,
2021 for records related to SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Rudolf Schuster, (German)
especially his complete war crimes testimony and statements given before
and during his trial in Poland after WW2. Additionally any and all files
and references to this man that were created by allied intelligence and
generated by the ARMY, CIC or OSS. Including drawings, photos and records
of verbal statements. Your request was received in this office on May 7,
2021 with the assigned control number 21-31930.

We have carefully searched our available finding aids and holdings but have
been unsuccessful in locating records responsive to your request. We
specifically searched our Personal Name Index to Office of Strategic
Services Personnel Files within Records of the Office of Strategic Services
(Record Group 226) but were not able to locate records related to Rudolf
Schuster.

We searched the textual series, Records of the Army Staff (Record Group
319) Entry 134-B - Investigative Records Repository (IRR) Personal Name
Files but were unable to locate records for Rudolf Schuster.

We additionally searched but were not able to locate records for Rudolf
Schuster within the European Name Index to War Crimes Case Files in Entry
142 - Records of the Office of the Judge Advocate General (Army) (Record
Group 153).

We were able to identify an additional series of records that may have
records related to Rudolf Schuster, Records of United States Army, Europe
(Record Group 549) Entry A1 2223 - Index to War Crimes Case Files.
Unfortunately we are not able to conduct a search of this series at this
time.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the
Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal
operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work
while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of
our staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, we are
unable to provide a substantive response to requests that require us to
consult the records at this time. We apologize for this inconvenience and
appreciate your understanding and patience.

We will continue to process your request when the National Archive resumes
normal operations. For updates on the status of Research Rooms, please
visit https://www.archives.gov/coronavirus.

As noted before, we checked the textual IRR files; however, since the
digital IRR files need to be reviewed for categories of information
exempted from disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), we
are transferring your request to the Special Access and FOIA staff for
further action. The Special Access and FOIA staff will be in contact about
the status of your request.

We do not consider this a denial of your FOIA request. However, if you are
not satisfied with our action on this request, your options for appeal and
dispute resolution are outlined in the enclosure. If you have any
questions, you may reach us at archives2reference@nara.gov.

Sincerely,

This is in further response to your FOIA request 21-31930 regarding for
records related to SS-Sturmbannfuhrer Rudolf Schuster, (German) especially
his complete war crimes testimony and statements given before and during
his trial in Poland after WW2. Additionally any and all files and
references to this man that were created by allied intelligence and

of verbal statements. Your request was received in our office on May 7,

We have reviewed the series identified in the interim response that was
sent to you, Records of United States Army, Europe (Record Group 549) Entry

not listed in this index.
