This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Records regarding the asset forfeiture auction of 29,656.51306529 bitcoins. Specifically:

(a) Each submitted bidder registration form,
(b) Each submitted bid,
(c) A list of all bids selected at the end of the auction,
(d) All other correspondence with bidders and prospective bidders.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Dear Requester:

The United States Marshals Service is responding to your request for the names of the registrants and the amounts bid and the final bid prices of the ten lots sold in the recent bitcoin auction held on June 27, 2014.

At the outset, be advised that the losing bidders information and the individuals who registered for the auction are not being released. We have determined that this information are exempt from disclosure pursuant to exemption 3 of the Freedom of Information Act, 5 U.S.C. 552(b)(3(B).

Prior to release of the requested information, the USMS is obligated to notify the winning bidder. Pursuant to 28 C.F.R. § 16.8(d) and (f) , we initiated business submitter notification procedures.to provide the winning bidder (Tim Draper) an opportunity to object to disclosure of the purchase price. Mr. Draper submitted written objections to disclosure. We are currently reviewing these objections and will correspond with you, accordingly.
