From: National Park Service

Mr. Ward,

FOIAOnline shows your request has been assigned to Janeen Tyson, the US Park Police FOIA Officer for processing. You can contact her at uspp_foia@nps.gov to get specific status updates. However, in the meantime, I can provide you some general background.

1. NPS uses Multitrack Processing<https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-43/subtitle-A/part-2#2.15> to process FOIA requests. The Simple track is for requests that would generally take one to five workdays to process. The Normal track is for requests that would generally take six to twenty workdays to process. The Complex track is for requests that would generally take twenty-one to sixty workdays to process. The Extraordinary track is for requests that would generally take more than sixty workdays to process. The Expedited track is for requests that have been granted expedited processing, which are processed as soon as practicable. Within each track, requests are usually processed on a first-in, first-out basis.
2. FOIAOnline shows that your request was placed in the normal processing track and that there are currently 116 requests ahead of your request in the US Park Police's normal processing track.
3. In accordance with FOIA the NPS had 20 workdays in which to make a determination on your request. Because we did not respond within the required time frame, you have the right to appeal.

Appeal Rights—43 C.F.R. §§ 2.57 (a)(7)<https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-43/subtitle-A/part-2#subpart-H>

You may appeal to the Department’s FOIA/Privacy Act Appeals Officer. If you choose to appeal, you may file your appeal any time after the after July 21, 2022. Appeals arriving or delivered after 5 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday, will be deemed received on the next workday. Appeals submitted via the FOIAOnline form will NOT be accepted for processing and will be deleted without further review or communication.

Your appeal must be made in writing. You may submit your appeal and accompanying materials to the FOIA/Privacy Act Appeals Officer by mail, courier service, fax, or email. All communications concerning your appeal should be clearly marked with the words: "FREEDOM OF INFORMATION APPEAL." You must include an explanation of why you believe this response is in error. You must also include with your appeal copies of all correspondence between you and the National Park Service (NPS) concerning your FOIA request, including your original FOIA request and this response. Failure to include with your appeal all correspondence between you and the NPS will result in the Department's rejection of your appeal, unless the FOIA/Privacy Act Appeals Officer determines (in the FOIA/Privacy Act Appeals Officer’s sole discretion) that good cause exists to accept the defective appeal.

Please include your name and daytime telephone number (or the name and telephone number of an appropriate contact), email address and fax number (if available) in case the FOIA/Privacy Act Appeals Officer needs additional information or clarification of your appeal.
