To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

I am interested in obtaining documentation concerning the Copyright Office budget at the level of operational units. For example, I would like to know how much it costs to run Registration, Public Information and Education, the General Counsel's Office, Policy and International Affairs, Recordation, and so on. That may not exactly be the way the numbers are broken down, but it would be good to be able to separate out the services that are provided for fees -- e.g. registration and recordation -- from the Office's non-service-fee activities. I would like that documentation for the last five fiscal years: FY2012, FY2013, FY2014, FY2015, and FY2016.

I would also like documentation concerning the revenue obtained by the Copyright Office from registration fees, and from recordation fees, for those five fiscal years: FY2012, FY2013, FY2014, FY2015, and FY2016.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Robert Brauneis
