Records relating to the crash and investigation of United Airlines Flight 553, which crashed on approach to Chicago Midway International Airport on December 8, 1972
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

Checking the status online shows that my FOIA request was closed and that I was notified of this - however I was never notified of any such thing. I was only notified that I would be provided the 161 pages that had been located. This was on December 22, 2015. Since then, no pages have arrived and no updates have been sent.

This FOIA request was marked closed after the file was found and I was informed that there would be no fees, however I was never sent the file or informed that the FOIA request was closed. I humbly ask that the files I requested and was promised be provided. If it helps, I promise to pay the fee of $0.00.

Dear Mr. Best,
The letter dated December 21, 2015 indicated “The FBI exhausted the two hours of free search time” and located 161 pages of records in the allotted time. It asked that you respond within 30 days to indicate your preference in the handling of your request, i.e. whether you wanted the FBI to continue searching or not. Searches beyond the 2 free hours incur fees in the amount of $10.00 for each quarter hour spent searching.
The letter stated, “if we do not receive your decision regarding the fee issues above within thirty (30) days of the date on this notification, your request will be closed.” Our records indicate we did not receive a response from you stating whether you wanted us to continue searching or not within 30 days of the letter’s mailing. Consequently, the request was closed on 2-10-2016.
Please respond indicating one of the following 3 options in order for us to reopen your request and continue processing:
· I want to cancel my request
· I do not want the FBI to continue searching. I am willing to accept the results of the initial search.
o I am willing to pay estimated duplication/international shipping fees up to the amount specified in this letter
o I am willing to pay fees of a different amount. Please specify amount.
o Provide me with 100 pages or the cost equivalent ($5.00) free of charge. If applicable, I am willing to pay international shipping fees.
