This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
Any and all files on United Airlines Flight 553.
United Airlines Flight 553 was a Boeing 737-222 that crashed during an aborted landing and go around while approaching Chicago Midway International Airport on December 8, 1972. The plane crashed into a residential neighborhood, destroying five houses. 43 of the 55 people aboard the aircraft, and two others on the ground, were killed.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

After consulting with our accident and incident office, I have been informed that do to its age, the FAA no longer maintains records pertaining to this incident, since our records retention period for accidents has passed. If you would like I can assign and provide an official no records response. Please let me know how you would like to proceed by no later than March 24, 2017 or we will consider this matter closed.
