From: Michael Morisy

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

A copy of any crowd estimates created before, during, or after the Presidential Inauguration on Jan. 20, 2017. Please provide any estimates generated not only for the Inauguration itself, but any estimates for large events monitored by this agency in the Washington, DC area that take place from January 15, 2017 to January 31, 2017.

Please provide estimates generated by this agency or provided by other entities, including other agencies, news organizations, and private contractors. Please also include any accompanying methodological documentation, as well as any presentations or reports generated to explain these numbers.

Please also provide any communications between this agency and any organizations or individuals representing the Inaugural Committee or the White House that discuss crowd estimates.

For help research this request, internal crowd estimates concerning the inauguration were mentioned by Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst in a recent article on Politico (http://www.politico.com/story/2017/01/trump-inauguration-turnout-233876):

> “Due to the difficulty in accurately assessing crowd estimates for large events, most notably following 1995’s Million Man March, the National Park Service no longer makes it a practice to provide crowd estimates for permitted events,” Litterst wrote in an email.
>
> “While we make internal estimates for staffing, security and emergency response purposes, it is left to the discretion of event organizers to make a determination of the event attendance.”

I request copies of those "internal estimates" as well as any other estimates as described above.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Michael Morisy

Dear Mr. Morisy,

We are in receipt of your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated
January 21, 2017. Your request has been assigned control number NPS

Since January 21, the National Park Service has received a high volume of

processing is complete, we will be posting these batches of documents on
the NPS FOIA Reading Room (https://www.nps.gov/aboutus/foia/foia-frd.htm).

We will notify you as we make uploads of documents over the coming weeks.
Please note that later this month, I will be transitioning out of my role
as FOIA Officer and Christopher Watts will become the FOIA Officer for the
National Capital Region of the National Park Service. Christopher is cc'd
on this correspondence.

Sincerely,
