To whom this may concern,

Thank you for the response.

For clarification, by "the last" 200 pages, I am requesting the most recent emails as of the date of the initial request submission (July 4, 2018.) If you are unable to conduct a request in this manner, you may conduct a random sample of 200 pages for the year 2018.

If it is easier to process, you may remove spam, junk, newsletter, and other subscription like emails.

From: Department of Treasury

I will be out of the office until August 7, 2018. You may contact the FOIA Hotline number at 2026-622-0930 or via e-mail at: FOIA@treasury.gov.

To whom this may concern,

Could you please explain further why this is an "imperfect" requests, other Federal Agencies and the Treasury have responded to mechanically equivalent requests and the actual search operation requested is not vague or cumbersome.

From: Taylor Amarel

To be ultra clear, here is a list of FOIA requests from federal agencies that have done email searches in response to FOIA requests, these are in addition to the other very public FOIA requests regarding former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, FOIA requests regarding Bengazi, etc. There is no reason as to why email records can not be searched.

6.) https://www.muckrock.com/foi/united-statesica-10/mick-mulvaney-emails-55562/
7.) Etc.

There are thousands and thousands of more FOIA requests that relate to email searches that have been processed by federal agencies.

From: Department of Treasury

Good morning,

I am in receipt of your email concerning why your request was determined to be imperfect and administrable closed. In your original email you seek, "Request the last 200 pages of emails sent to, from, or copied to TREASExecSec@do.treas.gov<mailto:TREASExecSec@do.treas.gov>". In my imperfect letter to you seeking clarification I asked you if you were requesting the last 200 emails sent to or from TREASExecSec@do.treas.gov<mailto:TREASExecSec@do.treas.gov>. There is a difference between asking for the last 200 pages and the last two hundred emails. We needed clarification before we could process your request.

Thank you,

Cawana

Hello Ms. Pearson,

Could you please clarify where this request stands? Despite the confusion, it would be much appreciated if your office could continue to process this request given the additional clarification provided by Taylor Amarel via mail earlier this month (that communication has been copied beneath this message). If that is not possible, it would be appreciated if your office could process this request, using the most recent clarification as guidance, in the most appropriate way available.

Thank you so much for your time and help.

Best wishes,
Beryl Lipton, MuckRock
