Greetings Paul Gottinger,

The Indian Health Service (IHS) Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office is reaching out to you regarding your FOIA request number 19-036.

As the COVID crisis has had a significant impact on both staffing and resources, the IHS FOIA Office is in the process of reviewing pending open FOIA requests to try and eliminate the outstanding backlog. The purpose of this email is to ask if you remain interested in the records identified in this request. In addition, it has been the experience of the FOIA Office that narrowing requests with the requester has moved cases more quickly through the process. Please consider narrowing your request at this time.

If you remain interested, please contact this office by email at ihsfoiamailbox@ihs.gov<mailto:ihsfoiamailbox@ihs.gov> and indicate that you would like this case to continue to completion. Also, please indicate if you would like to work with IHS to narrow your request, which would entail a discussion via telephone or email with an IHS FOIA staff member. The IHS will not proceed with your request until notification is received from you making it clear that you remain interested.

Please respond back within 20 business days, no later than 3/25/2021, or IHS will presume that you are no longer interested and administratively close this request. However, should you need additional time, please note that there is no bar for refiling this request at a later date.
