To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

All emails to or from Adam Mellor and the attachments to those emails where the email was sent or received between 1/1/2014 and the date this request is processed where the email contains the word "star" anywhere in the subject or body of the email.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Jason Smathers

Mr. Smathers:

We will likely have to send just the update letter within the 20 days. It
looks like there is 1000+ pages with the word "star" in my e-mails. We are
the initial release authority so we will redact certain parts--a lot of "for
official use only" stuff and send to our higher headquarters for final
determination. You will be getting everything from the Ft. Knox
announcements regarding deals for Blue Star card holders to an e-mail on my
refund for a cancelled vacation to Halifax (US Airways is a member of the
Star Alliance). There are a lot of individual personnel documents that will
have to be heavily redacted as there were a lot of e-mails that had "star"
in the base e-mail.

I will keep you posted. We will certainly try to get all of the redactions
done within 20 days but I cannot make any promises.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Ms. Kakel,

I received the sgt star input patterns in June of 2014 and consider that
request complete. I agree with the way we narrowed the request in #3,
provided that fees for any additional search time caused by narrowing
the request is waived as we discussed.

Thank you for the assistance.

Regards,
Jason Smathers
