Mr. Morisy,

I have contacted the Case Analyst and requested an estimated completion date for your case. The Analyst will contact the bureaus doing the searches and the individuals reviewing the material. This will take some time because each case is different. The search and review time varies. The time depends on the complexity of information requested and the time it takes to review the material.

Please check back with us in a week or so and we should have an answer for you.

I hope this information is helpful. If you have further concerns or any questions regarding any FOIA-related matter, please contact the FOIA Requester Service Center (FRSC) at (202) 261-8484, or fax us at (202) 261-8582 or send an e-mail to foiastatus@state.gov<mailto:foiastatus@state.gov>

Dear Mr. Michael Morisy:

The Office of Information Programs and Services (“IPS”) is in the process of reviewing open Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”) requests and would like to provide you with the status of your case. Your request, dated 05/06/2013, was opened 05/06/2011, and assigned to WEP. WEP is ready to conduct searches, but find the scope of your request overly general and board. Please provide us with a subject matter of your interest, (name, issue, committee member, etc.) A few unique key words for this search would be helpful. Currently, your request listed below: A copy of all responses sent to Congressional committees between 0/01/2008 to 05/06/2013. I look forward to your responds.

The State Department’s mission is global in nature and in turn the records that document our mission are global in nature too. The Department maintains its records both domestically and at hundreds of posts located around the world. Moreover, many of the Department’s records contain national security information and are classified pursuant to executive order or other sensitive information that is exempt from release under the FOIA. All of these factors combine to make for a complex and lengthy administrative FOIA process. We sincerely regret the delay in processing your request and are providing you with this status update to keep you informed about your case. IPS receives, on average, more than 17,000 FOIA requests each fiscal year and works very hard to respond to all requests in as timely a manner as possible.

Mr. Morisy,

The Office of Information Programs and Services ("IPS") is in the process of reviewing open Freedom of Information Act ("FOIA") requests and would like to provide you with the status of your case. Your request, dated 05/06/2013, was opened 05/06/2013, and assigned to WEP. Currently, your request stated below: "A copy of all responses sent to Congressional committees between 0/01/2008 to 05/06/2013." WEP has looked at this request and has major concerns. As it stands it certainly falls under the category of "unduly burdensome" under the FOIA. WEP would like to confer with the requester to narrow the scope. Please provide us with a specific subject matter (such as event, name, issue, committee member, etc.) Any unique key words/phrases for this search would be helpful.

If WEP does not receive any response from the requester in 30 days of this message, WEP would consider MuckRock News no longer interested in this request, and would closed this case administratively.
