This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

All records of communication between President Ronald Reagan and his spiritual advisers, including, but not limited to Billy Graham.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Jason Smathers

Ms. Williams,

Thank you for the response.

Can you explain how visiting the archives works? I recently visited the library, but didn't find the library part, only a museum. The museum consumed my day before I could inquire about the archives.

Can you please provide me a link to the finding guide for the previously processed records concerning Billy Graham? Does your response mean that all such records have been previously released and a search yielded no additional records?

I would like for the search to be wider than a simple keyword search for "spiritual advisors." Would you please widen the search for terms such as "reverend" "minister" "pastor" "clergy" "preacher" etc.

Please let me know if you are able to conduct a more complete search without the need for an appeal.

Thank you.

Regards,
Jason Smathers

Dear Mr. Smathers,

Our research room is availble Mon - Fri [except for Federal Holidays]
9:00am - 5:00pm. When you are ready to visit for your research you can
email us with the date of your visit and we will place you on our calendar.
As to the Billy Graham material-yes we have previously completed a request
for all material. This material is available for research and I have
attached a finding guide for this. I have also attached a finding guide
for "churches". In addition I have attached finding guides for the
currently available material from our Staff and Office files for the search
terms that you emailed- "reverend", "minister", "pastor", "clergy" and
"preacher". In addition each term has hits in our White House Office of
Records Management files [in administrations prior to President Reagan's
these files were called Cental Files]: "reverend" - 5,472 hits; "minister"
- 5,004 hits; "pastor" - 1,004 hits; "clergy" - 103 hits; and "preacher" -
4 hits. Part of these hits are from the WHORM category RM and are
currently available for research. Please note that although these terms
are searchable, they still are very broad keywords and as such the reports
include folders that you will most likely not be interested in. We will
process the unopen folders that relate to Religious matters.

Your FOIA is in our queue for processing and our current estimation of
processing time is 43 months from the date of your orginal request,
11/18/13, for us to begin processing.
I hope this information has been helpful and please let me know if you have
further questions.

Sincerely,
