From: Jason Smathers
To Whom It May Concern:
This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
This request is made under the Freedom of Information Act. Although the request may contain information about myself, I am not making the request under the Privacy Act and you can redact any information about me just as if another person made this request.
In a letter dated August 26, 2010 I submitted a Freedom of Information Act request to the Department of State. The request was seeking certain emails sent to or from Hillary Clinton. I am requesting all records created because of that request including the records created while processing the request and records concerning how to process requests for her emails in general and any investigation that arose concerning her not using government email.
My 2010 FOIA request stated: "Records Requested - All emails and corresponding attachments sent to (to:, cc: or bcc:) or from Hillary Rodham Clinton where the email contains any of the following keywords in the subject or body: Jesus, Christ, Christian, Evangelical, Church, Mosque, PBUH, Muslim, Islam or Islamic. Limit responsive emails to those sent between 01/20/2009 and the date this request is processed. "
This is a non-commercial request and is properly billed in the "other" fee category. I agree to fees up to $30 for this request. If fees are expected to exceed this amount, please let me know in advance so I can either expand my willingness to pay fees or narrow my request.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Jason Smathers

Dear Jason Smathers,
This is an updated response to the e-mail that you received from the Department of State on April 8, 2015, regarding the status of your Freedom of Information Act request.
Given the considerable public interest generally in the e-mails provided by former Secretary Clinton to the Department of State, the Department plans to review the collection for public release and to make the documents available to the public by posting them on a Department website. This will make the maximum number of records available in the shortest amount of time, and will be considerably more efficient than reviewing the documents piecemeal in response to subject-specific FOIA requests.
Once the collection has been posted, the Department will review your request to determine whether further action is needed.
Sincerely,
Charlotte W. Duckett
