Processing Notes for DOI FOIA Request

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

All records relating to the processing of FOIA request OS-2011-00069.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived because this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

The records responsive to the request would unquestionably shed light on the “operations or activities of the government" and the disclosure would “contribute significantly” to the public’s understanding of the Department of the Interior's FOIA operations. The FOIA request in question was submitted by a Mr. Jason Smathers via MuckRock.com on November 14, 2010 and still has not been completed. According to the publicly posted correspondence, DOI attorneys have been reviewing the documents since at least June 14, 2013. The request is past due by 3 years and 2 months.

I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Following up on our phone conversation I told you I would close the request considering another requester had asked for similar information. You stated that you would provide information on that request that was nearly ready to go out the door.
