This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
I have filed a FOIA against my federal employer but they are asking for over $1,000.00 for this service, can they really charge me that much? This is not for personal gain what so ever.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

Yes, they can charge that much, but they should do a good faith estimate in writing for you to review. They should be able to work with you to bring that amount down.
