This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Records relating to Paul Marcinkus (January 15, 1922 – February 20, 2006 http://www.nytimes.com/2006/02/22/business/22marcinkus.html?_r=1&), an American archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church best known for his tenure as President of the Vatican Bank from 1971 to 1989. He is known to have been questioned by the Department of Justice and FBI on several occasions. Please include a cross-reference search for Banco Ambrosiano, Propaganda Due, Roberto Calvi, and Michele Sindona. The death of the latter two individuals has been widely reported.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public through MuckRock and the non-profit Internet Archive's national security collection, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes. The information will be provided to journalists for additional analysis and reporting.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

I am appealing the integrity of the search. While it is possible there is no case file for him in the CRS, it is highly unlikely that the Bureau never received any communications or inquiries regarding him given his ties to organized crime and the fact that he was in the United States while there was widespread international interest regarding the man, as well as official inquiries to organizations he was connected to.
