To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Records relating to the "Front Door" investigation AKA "Operation Front Door", started by Federal Bureau of Investigation in November of 1986 until December 19, 1986 when it was transferred when Lawrence Walsh was appointed Independent Counsel. The FBI investigation focused on the Iran arms sales and the Iran/contra diversion. Operation Front Door has been described and disclosed in the Walsh Report and Department of Justice OIG reports as well as numerous news articles and interviews.

I am making this request as a member of the news media and request classification as such. The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

I request that all fees be waived, as the materials center on an investigation into alleged government wrongdoing. As it relates to the Iran-Contra affair, there is widespread interest in the information, the release of which will improve the public's understanding of the government's operations and activities. The disclosure will specifically improve the public's faith in the government by providing transparency into how the government handles allegations of wrongdoing.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Michael Best
