To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Copies of all applications, including associated attachments, received by OGIS from individuals applying to become a member of the FOIA Modernization Advisory Committee.

A list of individuals chosen by OGIS to serve on the FOIA Modernization Advisory Committee.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

J.K. Trotter

From: OGIS

Dear Mr. Trotter:

Thank you for contacting the Office of Government Information Services
(OGIS). We are the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Ombudsman, providing a
neutral place in the Federal government to which anyone -- agency or
requester -- can come for assistance regarding the FOIA.

Our jurisdiction is limited to assisting with the FOIA process.

OGIS:

• Advocates for neither the requester nor the agency, but for the FOIA
process to work as intended
• Provides mediation services to help resolve disputes between FOIA
requesters and Federal agencies
• Strives to work in conjunction with the existing request and appeal
process
• May become involved at any point in the FOIA administrative process

OGIS does not:

• Compel agencies to release documents
• Enforce FOIA
• Process requests or review appeals
• Provide assistance outside the realm of FOIA
• Make determinations or dictate resolutions to disputes

For your information, FOIA requests for the National Archives and Records
Administration's (NARA's) operational records, including OGIS records,
should be submitted in writing via mail, email, or fax to NARA's FOIA
Officer. I pasted the FOIA Officer's contact information below.

This communication is regarding the FOIA request copied below, which was forwarded to your agency.

Please confirm receipt and provide an estimated completion date.

Thank you.

From: FOIA

Mr. Trotter,

The Office of Government Information Services (OGIS) was created within the
National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) when the OPEN
Government Act of 2007 amended the Freedom of Information Act (5 U.S.C. §
552). They are part of Agency Services in the NARA organization that may
be found here: http://www.archives.gov/about/organization. Records created
by OGIS in the course of their business are Federal records subject to the
FOIA. All FOIA requests for records created by any component of NARA are
answered by the Office of General Counsel, not the component itself. OGIS
informed you twice that they forwarded your request to the Office of
General Counsel for processing within 10 business days as required by the
FOIA statute. Any questions regarding this FOIA request should be directed
to the Office of General Counsel, not OGIS. Please cite tracking number
NGC14-207 in all correspondence.

The Office of General Counsel received your request on June 10, 2014. An
Agency has 20 working days to respond to a FOIA request. Your estimated
date of completion is July 9, 2014.
