From: Patrick Howell O'Neill

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

All reports, memos, procedures, guidelines and communications pertaining to the 2017 hacking campaign against nuclear and energy firms in the US as reported by Reuters and the New York Times (see: http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKBN19L2Z9 and https://www.nytimes.com/2017/07/06/technology/nuclear-plant-hack-report.html?_r=2). This search should take place within the NRC's cyber security directorate as the NRC regulates commercial nuclear power plants and other uses of nuclear material through licensing, inspection, and enforcement of its requirements. Please include any processing notes made in completing this request.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Patrick Howell O'Neill

Good afternoon Mr. O'Neil,

We received your follow-up email regarding FOIA/PA 2017-0588, asking about the status of your request.
Please note that 2017-0588 was administratively closed, we sent the response to you July 17, 2017 (please see attached).
As stated, the reason for the administrative closure was the fact that you have filed another FOIA/PA request, FOIA/PA 2017-0598,
which is seeking similar records (on a broader scope) as 2017-0588.

Since both requests refer to the same subject matter, the NRC will provide one set of records that is responsive to both of your requests.

We are currently in the process of collecting and reviewing these responsive records and hope to provide them to you in the near future.

Would you please provide your telephone number so that we can contact you?

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Gaby

Good afternoon Mr. O'Neil,

I am the caseworker for FOIA/PA request 2017-0598 and would like to provide a status update to you:

We received your follow-up email regarding FOIA/PA 2017-0588, inquiring about the status.
Please note that 2017-0588 was administratively closed (please see attached) since you had filed a second FOIA/PA request with us,
FOIA/PA 2017-0598, which is duplicative of 2017-0588.

The NRC had determined that both requests, while slightly different, are seeking identical records (2017-0598 on a broader scope than 2017-0588).
Therefore, the records that are responsive to your 1st request are also responsive to your 2nd request, since both refer to the same subject matter.
The NRC is currently processing these responsive records and we hope to provide them to you in the near future.

Please note that during the search for responsive records, we located several documents that originated with several other agencies. These records will need to be referred. Attached please find a first referral that we sent to DHS for direct reply to you.

We will keep you updated on the status of your request.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if have any questions.

May we also ask for your telephone number so that we may contact you, please.

Thank you,

Gaby Chidichimo
