To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Hello, Can you please help me understand what range of records you may have from the Northwest (and Alaska) Division of the Bureau of Yards and Docs (today's NAVFAC Northwest) related to the history of the National Fallout Shelter Survey (ca. 1961 to 1970)? I am specifically interested in finding records related to Phase II of the survey that looked for possible public shelter sites in mines, caves, highway tunnels, and railroad tunnels in Washington and caves in Oregon. These records could include 1960s-era internal memos, manuals, reports, or correspondence with the Department of Defense Office of Civil Defense, the US Army Corps of Engineers (Seattle, Walla Walla, Portland districts), the Washington or Oregon state civil defense departments, county and city civil defense directors, site owners, and private architect-engineers employed to carry out the survey.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Lee O'Connor
