Subject: FOIA Appeal FA-19-0746 U.S. Army Human Resources Command concerning Nils C Sorenson
To whom it may concern,
I hereby request a formal appeal of denial per FA-19-0746 concerning Nils C Sorenson as provided by U.S. Army Human Resources
Command.
Nils C Sorenson claims to have served in the United States Army as a commissioned officer between approximately 1983-2010. The public has a right to verify service dates for any veteran of the United States Army.
Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I respectfully request a copy of all award citations in OMPF, history of assignments, ranks, dates of promotions training courses/certificates, military education, transfers, unit assignments and form DD-214. The information will validate Mr. Sorenson's military service. Officer Evaluation reports can be withheld. The military award citations do not contain any classified information and are public records. A listing of authorized awards/decorations for Mr. Sorenson is not classifed information or considered privacy sensitive. Any sensitive information can be redacted per Privacy Act of 1974.
The subject NILS C SORENSON is a public figure. Mr Sorenson has given several public speeches,
conducted public interviews posted online, and has utilized his military experience and background to become chief operating officer of
Janus Global Operations, LLC which has extensive and ongoing United States Government contracts funded by Taxpayers.
He previously served as CEO of Triple Canopy, Inc. which has been awarded numerous government contracts concerning private security services for US State Department personnel/facilities and other govt agencies.

The U.S. Army Human Resources Command has withheld records it believes "could be reasonably expected to or would result in a clearly unwarranted invasion of personal privacy". I believe this to be false and inaccurate as the subject is already claiming publicly his former military credentials and experience which has been documented on national news media such as The Washington Post.
Several pdf copies have been attached to this appeal.
The U.S. Army Human Resources Command has withheld records claiming exemption per "10 U.S.C. § 130c, to protect sensitive information of foreign governments and international sources and methods and 50 U.S.C. § 3024(i), to protect intelligence sources and methods". I believe this to be false and inaccurate. Mr Sorenson's Official Military Personnel File including award citations do not and should not contain any classified information nor sensitive intelligence information which would be a violation of Executive Order 13526. I believe withholding the requested records is unwarranted.
Mr. Nils C Sorenson background and military experience are a matter of public concern. The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for any commercial purposes.
