To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

It is my understanding that the Federal Bureau of Investigation maintains the National Crime Information Center for criminal justice agencies to make disclosures about crimes, and that this database includes information about firearms that have been reported stolen.

Please provide the number of firearms reported stolen by each criminal justice and/or law enforcement agency for each of the following years: 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Please provide the data in such a way that we can see the number of firearms reported stolen by each law enforcement agency during each of those years, as we want to see how many firearms have been reported stolen in each jurisdiction.

The requested data will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. This request is being made by The Trace, a nonprofit news organization, with the help of MuckRock. The Trace will be paying any fees associated with this request. Therefore, please make out any invoice to The Trace, not MuckRock.

I would prefer the data be provided in a Microsoft Excel compatible format, sent via email attachment to either this email address or bfreskos@thetrace.org. If an email attachment is not available, please mail a CD-ROM and all correspondence to the following address:
