From: CJ Ciaramella

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

- Any communications to or from David S. Ferriero regarding the use and alteration of a Getty photograph depicting the 2017 Women's March, which was used in an National Archives exhibit, "Rightfully Hers: American Women and the Vote." For the purposes of this request, I request you include any communications to or from Ferriero containing "women's march" between Jan. 1, 2018 and Jan. 18, 2020. Please search all government email addresses used by Ferriero, including alias and non-public addresses. Please also note that communications sent from private email accounts that pertain to government business are federal records.

For background, the Washington Post reported that the Archives altered the photo to remove certain words: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/national-archives-exhibit-blurs-images-critical-of-president-trump/2020/01/17/71d8e80c-37e3-11ea-9541-9107303481a4_story.html

The Archives told the Washington Post that the decision to alter the photograph "was made as the exhibit was being developed by agency managers and museum staff members. It said David S. Ferriero, the archivist of the United States who was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2009, participated in talks regarding the exhibit and supports the decision to edit the photo."

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

CJ Ciaramella
