To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Records relating to or mentioning Mervyn LeRoy (October 15, 1900 – September 13, 1987), an American film director, film producer, author, and occasional actor. Proof of death is not required as he was born over 100 years ago. Please also include any records relating to or mentioning LeRoy's production, The FBI Story. The Bureau reportedly had great influence over the production, with J. Edgar Hoover acting as a co-producer of sorts. Hoover reportedly forced LeRoy to re-shoot several scenes he didn't think portrayed the FBI in an appropriate light, and played a pivotal role in the casting for the film. Hoover and LeRoy were personal friends, but Hoover only approved the film after he had a file of "dirt" created on LeRoy.

See attached for search parameters and fee information.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Emma Best
