From: Troy Carter

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

All diplomatic cables originating from the U.S. Embassy Cairo which report on US Embassy Cairo's communications and attempted communications with the Government of Egypt regarding the sacking of the Israeli Embassy in Cairo on 9 September, 2011.

It was widely reported that high-ranking U.S. officials were unable to reach the Government of Egypt to plead for intervention in the affair. The documents I am requesting will allow the public to understand what the Embassy's actions were during this situation and how U.S. government officials responded to the inability to intervene. This web link may help you understand the event in question: http://www.haaretz.com/news/diplomacy-defense/u-s-told-egypt-it-must-rescue-israeli-embassy-workers-or-suffer-consequences-sources-say-1.383675

For the sake of efficiency please limit the search to cables which were authored in September, 2011.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Troy Carter
