Good afternoon Mr. Eaton:
We received your request in the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Office and assigned control GSA-2017-001029. Please refer to this number in all future correspondence concerning this request. Based on this, we anticipate response on or prior to June 15, 2017.
We have twenty (20) workdays in which to respond (excluding Federal Holidays).   However, it may not always be possible to provide the documents within this time period. This is in reference to your GSA Freedom of Information Act Request:
GSA-2017-001029 , in which you requested "the following records:

(1) The most recent inventory of data hosted at Data.gov created on or
before Jan. 19, 2017;

(2) The most recent inventory of data hosted at Data.gov, as of the date
your office processes this request. Data.gov is managed by the U.S. General
Services Administration, Technology Transformation Service."

According to our subject matter expert, the requested information will
result in an extremely large file that we cannot just provide in an
attachment or thumb drive. As a result, our only other option is to host
the information as a dataset where we would provide you a URL link to
access the data.gov inventory for both dates (most current and on dated on
or before 1/19/2017).

6/13/2017 or we will determine that you are no longer interested and will

Good afternoon Mr. Eaton - After I sent to you the clarification this
morning, I had another conversation with the subject matter expert and as a
result, I have additional information I want to share with you as well as
additional information I need from you in order that we satisfy the
requirements of your request.

Your request refers to "data hosted at Data.gov." Data.gov is a metadata
catalog, and contains metadata entries for approximately 200,000 datasets.
In the vast majority of cases, the datasets are hosted at the websites of
the participating organizations, not Data.gov.

Data.gov does have a limited capability to host some datasets and provides
this service to a small number of agencies. The data is hosted at
inventory.data.gov, which is for the most part a non-public system except
for the URLs where the small number of datasets are available for viewing
and downloading. The attached spreadsheet responds to your request as
written, reflecting the list of datasets "hosted" currently at Data.gov,
with the blue section showing resources added since 1/19/2017.

If your request was for a list of all the datasets included in Data.gov
(meaning there is a metadata entry for it in the Data.gov catalog), we can
provide that as well, though the dates might not be exactly pre/post
1/19/2017. As stated in my previous email, the responsive file would be too
large to provide as an attachment or even on a Thumb drive but we should be
able to post the file and provide you a URL if that is ok with you.

will determine that you are no longer interested and will close your
request.
