From: Maraya Cornell

Dear FOIA Officer:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Case summaries, including adjudications, for all investigations, closed between fiscal year 2000 and the present, into the energy industry (onshore activities only).

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

As a freelance journalist, I expect to be placed in your news media category. As evidence of my publication record, here are links to some of my stories:

https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/02/wildlife-watch-sea-cucumbers-illegal-wildlife-trade-coral-reefs/

Furthermore, I request a fee waver on the grounds that this report is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations of the government — i.e., how the government polices fraud, abuse, and waste in the energy sector.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request.

Thank you for your time.

I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Maraya Cornell

Dear FOIA Officer,

I'm writing to inquire about the status of my FOIA request, submitted September 20, 2019, for case summaries of investigations, closed between fiscal year 2000 and the present, into activities of the onshore energy industry. Did your office receive my request and assigned it a tracking/control number?

Thanks and regards,
Maraya

Dear Ms. Washington,

Thank you for these records.

However, I requested that the records include adjudications (i.e., how the case was closed -- the OIG's conclusion or referral to another agency), and I notice that the records do not include this information. Your determination letter does not explain the absence. I thought I would ask you prior to appealing, in case this was an oversight.

Thank you,
Maraya
