From: National Archives And Records Administration – Archival Or Special Access

Dear Emma Best,

I am writing in response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request
of February 4, 2020, for records in the custody of the National Archives
and Records Administration (NARA). Your request was received in this office
on February 5, 2020, and assigned FOIA tracking number *RD 63836*.

You requested access to seven folders from Record Entry HS1-76796851 (P
345); which is further identified as Record Group 60: Records of the
Department of Justice; Office of the Associate Attorney General; Records
Relating to Inslaw, 1991-1994. You provided National Archives
Identification (NAID) numbers from NARA's online Catalog for records you
are requesting. The NAID numbers are: 4724671, 4724672, 4724675, 4724707,
4724725, 4724726, and 4724775.

Attached is a list of folder titles, box numbers, and estimated page counts
associated with each NAID. The total *estimated* page count for your entire
request is 1,069 pages.

A few things to note:

- The earliest date spotted in a cursory glance of the requested files
is September 21, 1987, which is four years earlier than 1991 listed for the
Series. The most recent date I spotted is August 26, 1994.
- NAID 4724725 is not in box 20 despite being listed as such in our
Catalog. It was combined with NAID 4724726 and placed in one folder in box
21 .

These records require screening for categories of information exempted from
disclosure under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act prior to
public release. In particular, certain documents may require redactions to
protect the privacy of living individuals.

Requests for records totaling between 701 and 3,000 pages are assigned to
our Second Tier processing queue. To give you an indication of our existing
backlog, we are currently processing Second Tier requests received in May
2014.

Please note that once we have notified you that review is complete, you may
either visit our College Park, Maryland, facility to view these records at
no cost or order reproduction copies. You may order reproduction copies at
the cost of $0.80 per page by contacting our office to place an order at
that time. We estimate that the cost of reproductions will be $855.20.

To notify this office of a change in your contact information or to track
the status of your request, please telephone 301-837-3190 or e-mail
specialaccess_foia@nara.gov. If you have specific questions regarding the
subject of your request, please contact me directly at either
mark.murphy@nara.gov or at 301-837-1999. All communications concerning this
request should reference your FOIA tracking number *RD 63836*. If this
communication is returned as undeliverable and no return address is
provided, your case will be administratively closed.

Thank you for the update. I would like the opportunity to weigh in before any documents are scoped out of the request as "non-responsive," as there's a fair chance I'll want them regardless and the subject is one where related matters could be included in the files but not, at an initial reading, be clear how they are related.

I appreciate the note about the date ranges and the folder/box placement.

Thank you so much for all your hard work!
