From: Timothy Denevi

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records: all files related to Hunter Stockton Thompson, an American author and journalist, born July 18, 1937 Lexington, KY, died Feb. 20, 2005, Woody Creek, CO ( for proof of death, see, e.g., http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/22/books/22thompson.html?ref=huntersthompson).

I would like to specify that the FBI should search all field offices as well as HQ for these records; to search the older, manual indices as well as the automated indices; and to include cross-references; as well as ELSUR (Electronic Surveillance).

I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Timothy Denevi
