To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
All documents or files pertaining to Frances Drake Paine (1912-1999), also known as Freddy or Freddie, the American activist. Paine's death in 1999 is confirmed by the Ancestry.com: https://www.ancestry.com.au/genealogy/records/frances-freddy-drake-24-lv7ry.
Through research into these files, I believe that the relevant file number is 100-HQ-405487. I have also seen a reference to a file in the Los Angeles FBI office with the number 100-43723.
I am a journalist whose work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, and other places. I am seeking a fee waiver because this request is being made for public interest purposes and not for commercial purposes.
Because I have a publication timeline, I would like to request an expedited review.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
Sincerely,
Benjamin Tarnoff
