Good afternoon,

Due to an administrative error, your request has not yet been processed.

Some of the entries for the logs contain personally identifiable information (PII). This information includes names of individuals, dates of birth, Social Security Numbers, dates of birth, home addresses, telephone number, etc. and is typically withheld under exemption 6. For faster service, you may amend your request to receive the final responsive documents with PII redacted. Otherwise, the records will need to undergo a legal sufficiency review to before release. Legal sufficiency reviews can be a lengthy process. Would you like to amend your request to receive a releasable copy of the records?

Additionally, for the log, are you looking for the date of the request, the date the request was received, description, and final disposition of the requests?

Please respond within 30 days of the date of this correspondence. If we do not hear back from you by that time, we will assume you are no longer interested in the request and it will be administratively closed. Please refer to FOIA number 2018-CGFO-00667 in your correspondence.

Yes, it's fine to leave out PII.

I would like the logs to have fields for the request number, date of the request, the date the request was received, final disposition of the requests, and, most crucially, description/subject of the request.

Good afternoon,

This is the electronic final response to your January 4, 2018, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) for FOIA request logs covering October 2016 to present, which include a field showing the subject of each request and a field for the final disposition. This office received your request on January 4, 2018 and was assigned FOIA number 2018-CGFO-00667

In responding to a FOIA request, the USCG will search for responsive documents in its control on the date the search began. We began our search on January 4, 2018.

Per your email correspondence on March 12, 2019, it is our understanding that you agree to have Personally Identifying Information (PII) which is usually withheld under Exemption 6 redacted from the responsive records. We are granting your request under the FOIA, Title 5 U.S.C. § 552, as amended, and DHS' implementing regulations, 6 C.F.R. Chapter I and Part 5. After carefully reviewing the responsive documents, I determined that they are appropriate for public release. They are enclosed in their entirety.

Provisions of the FOIA allow us to recover part of the cost of complying with your request. In this instance, because the cost is below the $14 minimum, there is no charge.

This completes the U.S. Coast Guard response to your request. If you need any further assistance or would like to discuss any aspect of your request, please contact this office. You may also contact our FOIA Public Liaison by emailing efoia@uscg.mil<mailto:efoia@uscg.mil> or calling (202) 475-3522.
