To Whom It May Concern:
I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information request, copied below, and originally submitted on Oct. 26, 2015. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response, or if further clarification is needed.
Thanks for your help, and let me know if further clarification is needed.
From: Ivan Greenberg
I wish to follow up on the matter of the FBI file on Herbert G. Gutman.
In a letter of November 19, 2015, FBI says that records potentially response to this FOIA request have been sent to NARA. Two FBI files are listed: 100-HQ-11550 and 100-HQ-391630.
In my request letter, I indicated that I had in the past requested the Gutman file and was sent 441 pages. I am working with a different FBI file number for the Gutman records. This file number is 100-18396.
This should be the main file on the subject. For your information, this FBI file number is listed for Gutman in a June 3, 1965, FBI memorandum under the title, "Demonstrations Protesting U.S. Intervention in Viet Nam." A full copy of this memorandum is reprinted in my book, Surveillance in America: Critical Analysis of the FBI, 1920 to the Present (Lexington Books, 2012) following p. 188.
Can you please search your records by file number to locate this file.
Sincerely,
Ivan Greenberg, PhD
