From: Brooke Williams

To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

The most recent expense reports, going back for the past 24 months, for commissioners of the National Indian Gaming Commission.

I ask that you please provide the records in their original electronic format. I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your commitment to an open and transparent government process. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Brooke Williams

Ms. Williams:

We have received your request for information pertaining to Expense Reports for Commissioners. Before your FOIA request can be opened, I need for you to forward a statement of acknowledgement to me within 10 working days of the date of this email indicating the maximum amount of fees you are willing to pay pursuant to 25 CFR Part 517.4(c) for the processing of your FOIA request. After I receive this statement, I will begin to process your "complete request". If I do not receive a statement of acknowledgement from you within the specified time frame, your request will be considered incomplete; and, your file will be administratively closed. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me via telephone or by email.

Dear Ms. Choate',

I'd be happy to provide a maximum amount I would be willing to pay, but first, I would like to please request a conversation to help me understand how these records are stored and in what format. You can reach me at 202-615-3551. I will also call you to ensure you do not administratively close my request and also set up a good time to talk.

Thank you,
Brooke

Ms. Williams:

No problem. I left you a voicemail message to further explain what we need from you in order to move forward.

Thanks in advance,
AnDrea

From: Brooke Williams

Thank you, AnDrea,

It was a pleasure talking with you today. To expand and clarify, I believe this request is in the public interest and ask that you please waive any fees because the commissioners of the NIGC are serving vital roles to both American Indian tribes and their members, as well as the general public including customers of gaming facilities. In order for the news media to hold the NICG accountable to those it serves, it is important for the public to have access to information about how they are spending money allocated to the NICG in order for it to promote tribal economic development, self-sufficiency and strong tribal governments, maintain the integrity of the American Indian gaming industry, and ensure tribes are the primary beneficiaries of their gaming activities.

If you determine this request does not qualify for a fee waiver despite the information above, I would be willing to pay up to $5 for processing.

Thanks again, and feel free to call me with any questions.

Brooke
