This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act.

### Background ###

The US government has compelled technology companies to hand over the source code of their products in civil and other cases: http://www.zdnet.com/article/us-government-pushed-tech-firms-to-hand-over-source-code/

### Request ###

I hereby request the following records:

1) The number of times that the DOJ has sought a company's source code for any products.

2) All applications submitted to state or federal courts for orders asking for a company to provide source code, as well as any affidavits or other documents filed in support thereof, warrants or orders, denials of warrant or orders, and returns of warrants associated with those applications. If any responsive records are sealed, please provide a record containing the date and docket number for each sealed document.

3) Records reflecting the docket numbers, or, if unavailable, other identifying information, of all cases in which the DOJ asked a company to provide product source code.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In order to help to determine my status to assess fees, you should know that I am journalist writing for Motherboard, VICE's technology and science site, and that this request is being made as part of news gathering.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
