This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
All emails, dated between January 1 2013 and the date this request is fulfilled, exchanged between any of the following officials regarding the content of the Marine Corps Times and/or the Marine Corps Times’ placement at military commissaries and exchange stores:
Marine Corps Commandant General James F. Amos
U.S. Marine Corps Public Affairs Deputy Director Lt. Col. Chris Hughes
Assistant Deputy Commandant for Manpower and Reserve Affairs Sheryl Murray
Robert Hogue (Gen. Amos’ civilian attorney)
The requested records include all emails sent or received by the above individuals, and during the stated time period, that contain phrases “MCT” and/or “Marine Corps Times.”
In order to have this request fulfilled in a timely matter, I am willing to limit my request to clearly releasable portions of the requested documents. I reserve the right, however, to submit a new request if I am not satisfied with your response.
I request that fees for finding and duplicating these records be waived. I am a reporter and a member of the news media, employed full-time to disseminate information at Gawker Media, based in New York City, and am making this request as a part of that. Furthermore, the information I seek in the public interest, as it pertains to the actions and judgment of military leaders.
I also request expedited processing of this particular request, as the records I seek pertain to news reports published today — February 23, 2014 — by the Marine Corps Times about Marine Corps Commandant General James F. Amos seeking to ban the sale of the Marine Corps Times from commissaries and exchange stores owned by the U.S. military:

The public has an urgent need to know and understand the extent to which the Commandant has sought to undermine the practice of newsgathering about the military, the Marine Corps, and his own decisions, which manifestly affect the public.
