Hi Ms. Michelle Smith,

Thank you for the email. I'm a little confused how the request could be "unduly burdensome" since I included very specific keywords regarding a very specific government email account. Other agencies have requested keywords, for instance, be included in similar email records requests to narrow potentially voluminous searches. The only revision I can offer at this point is modifying the date range from "January 20, 2017 to Present Day" to between February 7 to December 31, 2017.

If you have any other suggestions feel free to respond to this email or call me at 212-664-7524.

From: U.S. Department of Education

Good Morning Clark Dartunorro,

The search terms:

"title xi", "school choice", "sexual assault", "voucher", "intelligent design", "evolution", "creationism", "Christian", "HBCU", "public school", "minority" and/or "diversity"

may potentially return a query of more than 200,000 pages. “Title XI” is a common term here at the Department as well as “voucher,” “public school” and “minority.” Documents within the Department’s databases as well as OutLook emails contain a plethora of repetitive words such as these due to the fact that these terms relate heavily to the programs that the Department manages on a daily basis. Please kindly state specifically what you are seeking so that we may conduct thorough searches of our databases. In an effort to perform a good search, we rely on keywords such as those that you provided. However, this is too many keywords to be searching for without a clearly identified topic or subject related to these keywords. Your assistance is greatly appreciated. I look forward to a response from you by March 4, 2018.
Best regards,
Michelle

Hi Michelle,

I am following up with your email. I want emails that Secretary DeVos has authored from her official email address (or any other addresses she may use) that has the aforementioned keywords. The topic regarding education policy changes, rulemaking, positions, etc. by the secretary while in her official capacity. Let me know if this works.
