On behalf of R. Patterson, Head, DON FOIA/PA Program Office (DNS-36), please find attached, an official response to the subject FOIA request

From: George Johnston

Thank you.

I am looking for emails from the beginning of October 2019 until the end of November 2019 related to President Trump's intervention in the affair. I hope that is descriptive enough.

From: SECNAV Chief of Naval Operations (DNS-36)

Good morning Mr. Johnston,

this email is confirming receipt of your respose to our 20-day response letter we sent you. Via FOIA online, you specified you are "looking for emails between the beginning of October of 2019 until the end of November 2019 related to President Trump's intervention in the affair."
Please note that in our letter we sent via email, we clarify a need for " a specific time frame, the office(s) to search, specific individual(s), and the specific category (or categories) of subject matter. " Though we know what you are looking for and the timeframe of records, we cannot conduct a reasonable search for those records unless you specify a specific individual, such as the Secretary of the Navy or Chief of Naval Operations, who would preside over or have jurisdiction over the subject matter..
Without this determination, the request is too broad and would consistute far too many offices, departments and orginizations to provide responsive records.

Hello,

When you say "Navy Office," do you mean SOCOM?

He is a SEAL.

From: SECNAV Chief of Naval Operations (DNS-36)

Good morning Mr. Johnston,
as a point of reference, SOCOM is not a Navy office, but a joint DoD command. By Navy Office, we refer to the organization or leader of an organization, such as the Office of Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV), whose Director is the Chief of Naval Operations, or the Office of the Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV), whose Director is the Secretary of the Navy.
Our office can only search for Navy-specific records, not SOCOM records. As such, in order to fulfill your request, we need to identify where and/or whom you are seeking communications from. Which office or individual are you seeking records from?

From: George Johnston

Thank you -- Office of the Secretary of the Navy.
