Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
- Any memos to or from Attorney General Barr regarding the Justice Department decision to resume federal executions, as well as any memos by former A.G. Jeff Sessions directing the Bureau of Prisons to study the issue.
According to a BuzzFeed News report: "A senior Justice Department official said that former attorney general Jeff Sessions directed the Federal Bureau of Prisons to explore options for resuming federal executions when he took office. The bureau recently concluded its review and submitted the proposal to Barr, who approved it, the official said." I therefore request former A.G. Sessions' memo directing BOP to examine resuming federal executions, as well as the resulting review submitted to A.G. Barr and any other materials submitted to Barr regarding this decision.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.
