This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:
I request any reports, cables, analysis and communications with other USG agencies produced by the US embassy in Mexico concerning the number and phenomenon of dissapeared people due to violence during FY 2007-2014. Please include any documents produced by the embassy regarding this issue during that time frame as well as any letters sent by US congressmen related to the matter.
I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Dear Mr. John Dyer,
This is in reference to your email of March 8, 2017 regarding your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request control number F-2014-15020. The analyst in the Compliance and Research Branch working on your case has informed us that processing of this case is underway. Each case is different and processing time depends on the complexity of the information requested, the location of the information, and the time it takes to review the records.
The proposed estimated completion date (ECD) for this case is August 31, 2017.
ECDs are subject to change and are "strictly" estimates. They are not intended to be used as "actual" dates of completion, due to various extenuating factors, which are beyond the control of the Branch, which may or may not include coordination with other Agencies during the process (referrals, concurrences, etc.). This is in response to your email below regarding the status of FOIA Case Control Number F-2014-15020.
The Office of Information Programs and Services' (IPS) electronic records system indicates that searches of the Department's Central Foreign Policy Records and the records of the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs were initiated in response to this request. As soon as it becomes available, you will be notified of the Department's search and review efforts in response to this request.
The Department processes FOIA and Privacy Act requests on a first-in, first-out basis, and currently has a backlog of approximately 13,600 cases.
As a result, there is presently a delay in the completion of FOIA and Privacy Act requests. Depending on the scope of your request and the potential volume of material that may be responsive and other factors, it could take until September 2019 to complete its processing.
