To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

A copy of the Army’s Personnel Files (OMPF) for a former servicemember named Dave Grossman (DATE OF BIRTH: 08/23/1956). The requested records include performance reports, job assessments, disciplinary records, training received, discharge papers, and any other releasable records.

Mr. Grossman was born in Frankfurt, West Germany. His career includes service in the U.S. Army as a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division, a platoon leader in the 9th Infantry Division, a general staff officer, a company commander in the 7th (Light) Infantry Division as well as a paratrooper and graduate of Ranger School. He went on to become a professor of psychology at West Point. In February 1998, Grossman retired from the military as a professor of military science at Arkansas State University. He has gone on to critical acclaim with several best selling books including On Killing, which is required reading for Marine Corps recruits. He currently runs the Killology Research Group and trains American law enforcement.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Curtis Waltman

Hello,

My Request Number is 2-20535711579. In trying to understand Dave Grossman's full name as far as I can tell it is simply David Grossman. He served from the mid-seventies (very likely 1975 was the date he entered service) and retired in 1998. He served in the Army where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, and completed Ranger School. He also was a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne Division, a platoon leader in the 9th Infantry Division, a general staff officer, and a company commander in the 7th Infantry. I couldn't find his service number, but I am including this more thorough breakdown of his career for your help. Thank you very much for your help on this request!
