Mr. Lasser,

You requested IT inventory records for computer hardware in our agency's possession currently and historically.

We are currently processing your request. In order to obtain the most accurate records, please clarify the following:

1. What time frame are you requesting? Your state "historically" in your request. In order to process accurately, please provide a specific date range.

2. Are you seeking records from DOE headquarters only? Or, are you seeking records from headquarters AND each DOE program office?

Thank you,

Naisha Johnson

Mr. Lasser,

Also, what specific types of computer hardware are you requesting?

Thank you so much for the clarification.

From: Allan Lasser

Ms. Johnson,

I'm happy to clarify my request. Specifically, I'm looking for the oldest piece of computer hardware in your agency's possession. This is part of a larger investigation, which I've documented here: https://www.muckrock.com/news/archives/2016/feb/24/hunt-governments-oldest-computer/

To directly answer your questions:
1. Date range: as old as possible.
2. All offices, not just DOE headquarters.
3. I suspect that the oldest computer would be a server or mainframe.

If I can provide any more information to help this request move forward, please let me know.

Sincerely,
Allan Lasser

Mr. Lasser,

Here at DOE, we have headquarters (including program offices) and field offices. Please see this website for clarification: http://www.energy.gov/offices

Are you requesting information for both headquarters and the field offices?

Due to the fact that each field office operates independently, it will take much longer to gather records from each of those offices.

Thanks for your help!

Naisha Johnson

From: Allan Lasser

Hi Naisha,

Considering the time it will take, I'd like to just request information from headquarters. May I separately file against specific field offices at a later date?

Thanks,
Allan
