Dear Mr. Craven:

This email acknowledges the receipt of your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated August 6, 2018 seeking documents regarding:

PTSD treatment complaints

This request just came across my desk and I would like to set up a time to discuss further the details of your request so that I may give you the most refined and relevant records from our databases. Because some of the proposed key terms are very generic, the records you seek are likely to be lost in the clutter of thousands of other consumer complaints for varying topics. If you are willing, please send me your contact phone number and availability so that I may reach out and discuss the finer points.

You may check the status of your FOIA request by visiting http://www.ftc.gov/about-ftc/foia/foia-reading-rooms/track-your-foia-request. This report is updated at the end of each month. If you should have any questions regarding your request, please contact me at 202-326-3407. In any call or future correspondence concerning the request, please refer to the following case number FOIA-2018-01254.

Sincerely,

Can you talk tomorrow?

From: Federal Trade Commission

Thank you for getting back. I just wanted to keep you up to date on the progress of your FOIA request.

I was actually able to generate a search that was usable for our purposes. Initially I conducted the search using the provided terms you gave in a disjunctive fashion. This meaning that for a specific complaint to be included, all it needed was to include the terms "PTSD" or "having" or "hyperbaric oxygen" or "bad" etc. The search yielded hundreds of thousands of complaints that are not all relevant to the types of companies in question. I was able to ascertain this after a quick look through some of the comment sections. Our office does not have the resources to go through each of these requests so we must take a different approach.

To narrow down our search, I will be using the terms in a conjunctive manner. Therefore in order for individual reports to show, they must contain the terms "PTSD" and "having" and "hyperbaric oxygen" and "bad" etc. I will process your request over the next few days as such and send you further correspondence on what it yields.

Please let me know if you would like to discuss this further. I can talk tomorrow on the phone should you still be wanting to.
Regards,

This sounds great, thanks for your diligent work. One note: "having" should actually be changed to "havening," if possible.

Caelan,

Did your search yield anything for "PTSD" and "hyperbaric"? Is it possible to do a quick search for those two search terms and provide me what comes up?
