To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

I am requesting an opportunity to view or obtain copies of public records that show the cohort default rates of students at Western Washington University over the past 10 years, broken up by year. I would also like to know the demographics of the people who filed for default such as first-generation status, gender, race and the type of degree they obtained at Western Washington University. The Higher Education Act of 1965 defines a first-generation college student as an individual whose parents did not complete a baccalaureate degree or in the case of any individual who regularly resided with and received support from only one parent, an individual whose only such parent did not complete a baccalaureate degree.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Emily Stout
