To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

Records relating to Duane Ramsdell "Dewey" Clarridge (April 16, 1932 – April 9, 2016), who was a senior operations officer for the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and supervisor for more than 30 years. Clarridge was the chief of the Latin American division from 1981 to 1987 and a key figure in the Iran-Contra Affair. Proof of death is not required, as his death has been widely reported by reputable outlets such as the New York Times. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/11/us/duane-r-clarridge-brash-spy-who-fought-terror-dies-at-83.html?_r=0

Please include records on allegations from CIA "in late 2009 that Furlong's private military contractors were running an illegal covert spying network in Afghanistan and Pakistan, managed by legendary ex-spymaster Duane R. Clarridge. The then-CIA station chief complained those contractors were helping target terrorists for capture and kill operations, and getting in the way of agency operations on the ground, according to multiple U.S. officials briefed on the investigation. All officials spoke anonymously to discuss intelligence matters." This has been reported by reputable outlets such as NBC: http://www.nbcnews.com/id/44683587/ns/us_news-security/t/air-force-employee-resigns-over-alleged-spy-ring/

I am also interested in materials relating to his private intelligence firm, the Eclipse Group, and any Inspector General reports relating to him or his company.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

I request that fees be waived. Due to his high-level role in government operations and his implication in illegal activity, which may have involved the U.S. government, the disclosure of this information is clearly in the public interest and will address allegations of wrongdoing involving the government and its officials. In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Michael Best
